Central Bank

The Central Bank team within the Financial Services Division is tasked with developing policy in order to ensure an appropriate legislative framework is in place so as to maintain a well-regulated, effectively supervised, competitive and stable financial services sector. The team works closely with the Central Bank to maintain effective and efficient regulatory structures and procedures to monitor, assess and maintain the financial system and financial stability.

The Central Bank team was responsible for a number of legislative reforms in response to the financial crisis of 2008, including the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 and the Central Bank (Supervision and Enforcement) Act 2013.

Central Bank Consolidation Bill

The Government Legislative Programme includes a commitment to bring forward a Central Bank Consolidation Bill. The Department of Finance, supported by the Central Bank of Ireland, identifies a consolidation project as an essential tool to amalgamate the myriad of central banking legislation into a single consolidated act.
